10Mar06

It's the fourth night of night shift. My body clock still hasn't adjusted. I'm sleepy at work, I'm sleepy at home. I can't wait 'til this month is over. I need coffee...

Panagbenga 2006

Ah, February, Panagbenga month.

This year there were two organizing bodies, the city and the ex-mayor + ex-congressman team. The unwillingness of the ex-team to let go of the festival organizing shows just how much money is made during the fest. A lot.

The more festive activities are usually on the last week of the Flower Festival. This week starts off with parades and ends with a series of concerts and street parties. It's a week to look forward to, but there are some thing I could do without - Traffic, Excessive visitors and Trash.

Bamboo Live:

Traffic during this week gets really, really bad because of the detours (Session road is closed to vehicular traffic), the sudden gush of Baguio people to town, and the influx of visitors to Baguio.

Traffic

Having visitors it is supposed to be good for the city's economy. I can't argue with that, but then the visitas bring with them a lot of problems as well. During this ramp in tourist population the streets get really crowded and the kind of driving that Manila is known for doesn't really help.

The irritating scooters are back

With all the people crowding in some parts of the city (specially Session Road), the trash gets uncontrollable. There might be trash bins around, but the Filipino isn't really known for his discipline.

Before the weekends, there is the inevitable fireworks display. This year's wasn't that impressive.
