Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

I think the egg did. The question does not specifically say chicken egg, so theoretically birds evolved from dinosaurs, and dinosaurs were known to lay eggs. Thus, the egg came first (millions of years before the first bird even got its feathers).

If we consider the Bible as our historical source then the egg came first as well. Genesis 1:21 states: "So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good." The creatures of the sea were created first. Therefore, the fishes and turtles and other egg-laying non-avian sea creatures were already laying eggs before any chicken was created.

So there, the egg came first....
