Roy Allan S. Bugaoan, 1977 - 2005
Today a very good friend, a great musician, took his life. He was 28 years old.
Roy, a son, a brother, a bandmate, a husband, and recently, a father, decided to end his life. His close friends and bandmates found no reason for him to. He had a stable job as a professor, he was taking his Masters, was happily married and had a son this year, he was gigging around town. It seemed everything was going for him. I've met people who've had things worse.
What was it that pushed him off the edge? This thought kept nibbling at me, keeping me awake at night, keeping me baffled each time I thought about it. I've asked around and a common item those around him mentioned was that he and his dad had clashes. Was this enough for him to neglect the fact that his new family needed him?
I don't think so. Nothing is reason enough for you to take matters into your own hands. As Marlon mentioned, all problems will pass, you just have to wait. Also, you always have
friend around to talk to, to ease your burden, to get matters off you chest. What ate him up inside, accumulating, building up pressure, until, BOOM, he'd had enough? Everybody commented that he was the last person you'd think would commit suicide. Everybody
else had more reason, more tendency to. Everybody was wrong.
I don't think we'll ever know the reason. Now we have to accept it, Roy's moved on. So should we. The great and not so great times we had, the experiences we've shared, the music we played, these will stay alive. If you shared these with Roy, then he's become a part of you as well.
Roy was a great bassist, one of the best I've met. Now he's jamming with Jimi, Jaco, Janis, and Jim. Baguio's lost one of her best musicians. His music and his life will always be remembered...
